Great restaurant in Fair Play. We had the Chef's Choice 5 course meal twice in one weekend it was so good. Giovanni the head chef was great and really showed a passion for his food. All 5 courses were great and the ingredients were fresh and local. We will be back every chance we get.
For a five course meal, the price was very affordable, and the wine list was great featuring the local wines. All in all a lot of bang for your buck.
I lived in Italy for 6 years and this is the most authentic Italian restaurant in Northern California. Everything is prepared individually by hand with local and, of course, imported Italian ingredients (think cheese and olive oil). Food is fabulous. Menu changes daily according to what is available and seasonal. Chef Giovanni, who spent many years in Italian restaurants, goes to Italy every year to personally to return with selected items such as truffles and wine. Just can't believe this place is located in the heart of foothill wine country rather than the Bay Area. A great place for lunch between wine tastings. Can't wait to return. As Michelin would say "worth a journey".
We came here on a Saturday evening as a spur of the moment thing after wine tasting in the area. It looked nice and we had high hopes.
The first thing we noticed was how over priced all of the wine selections were.
Second there really weren't that many people there as the restaurant itself is not very large and it was too cold for anyone to eat outside, however it took forever for our first course to be served. We were ready to steal bread from someone else's table we were so hungry by the time they finally brought out the cheese plate!
We ordered the special watermelon radish salad and cheese plate to start. Both of these were quite good...I'm not sure that the cheese plate was worth the $18, but it was good.
The watermelon radish salad was refreshing and very different. We were happy with that.
My husband ordered the risotto and I ordered the pasta of the day which was their lasagna. Both of these items were so tasteless and bland we couldn't even finish them. The risotto tasted like plain wet brown rice and the lasagna tasted like someone threw noodles into a can of whole tomatoes. It was beyond disappointing. The dinner was so bad we didn't want to tempt fate by ordering dessert.
Given their prices and how sub-par the food was, we won't be going back any time soon.
