We purchased approximately 4 lbs.of McIntosh apples. They appeared firm and solid in the bin. When we arrived home we discovered they were soft under the skin and most had brown spots inside. At a $1.29 a lb we expected a better quality apple.
The apple donuts were very good.

We recommend O'Hallorans on Cable Rd. for apples, better quality and better price!
We visit High Hill Ranch every year and enjoy seeing the crafts and eating the best apple pie around. Unfortunatly, we were very disappointed this year... the crafts were OK and lots of them (& lots of people), but lower quality items than previous visits. We bought two apple pies as we do each year -- one to eat and one to freeze. That's where the extreme disappointment was experienced -- this year our pie had a VERY thin crust and seemed to be just apples. Now we will not brag about this place having the best apple pie and will probably buy elsewhere. Too bad -- they really let us down this year!
My grandparents lived in the Placerville area and I have very fond memories of attending the Apple Festival and specifically High Hill. My family has 3 farms we must go to each year we attend and High Hill is one of them. I am going to a wedding in South Lake Tahoe and looking forward to stopping at the festival this year!
