Wanted to take the time to let you know of the authentic food I have enjoyed here for many years now. Being Northern Italian, it is always great to find a place that serves up the kind of food that I am used to.
And no one can do it better. The service is world class, and always great to see same faces. Tells me that the staff is taken care of along with them taking care of the restaurant.
Continued success.
After reading all the reviews, I realize that people get so blinded by the medias reality of Italian Food! It is not Pizza and big plates of pasta!!! Bologna where Biba is from is a refinded area that uses food that is grown there! As with all other regions of Italy! For all you worldly writers who acuse her of not being true Italian...Wake up and get educated!!
Her food is as true as it comes to Bologna and surrounding areas.. If you knew anything about Italian food, yes they eat in courses at times and don't eat until there is no room for more!! They socailize and walk the town unlike AMERICANS!! They have their salad at the end usually....instead of a huge slice of cake!!
As with any restaurant you might hit and miss on an item...That is probably true at Biba as well. But her Fried Calamari to her homemade pasta!! There is no world other than Fabulous! Her Lasagne is home made, and time intensive. Go home and make 8 layers of Spinach noodles and Bechemel Cream and a TRUE Bolognese Meat Sauce and put it together and see how long it takes!!! Especially when you have to make 200 oreders of it!! That is why it is only offered on Thursday and Fridays!!
From her appetizers to salads to pasta, main courses and her desserts. Biba is still the GEM of Sacramento. For those of you who think you know Italian Food, think again. She travels back and forth twice a year and her cookbooks and restaurant reflect this.
For those of you that are fans BRAVO and I think you know who you are!
For those of you that are ignorant to leave a 1 star. Olive Garden is your true Italian Restaurant.. I know for a fact, they put a spoon in their pasta bowl and serve warm bread and put dipping sauces on the table. In which if you have been to Italy.... That is something that is unheard of. Olive oil and Balsamic on the table is usually for your salad, not to put on a plate a slop up on bread!!! We Americans did that!! People of Italy know how to swirl a spaghetti noodle on a fork, break fresh crusty bread with family and enjoy their olive oil in their food!!
Just like Biba!
My husband and I went to Biba's on December 13th to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary and we took our kids ages 17,10, and 2. We had reservations at 5:30 on that Saturday.I've always wanted to go there for dinner since I read so much about Biba and her restaurant. I read the story of how wonderful she is to her employees even paying for one employee who I believe works in the kitchen to dine there with his family. It was very touching. Well we enjoyed the food but the service was not so great. When we walked in we realized that we were the only ones with kids and the rest of the patrons appeared to be upper crust snots and the waiters/waitresses were kissing their behinds with their fake laughs. We had to wait quite a while to be serviced and the funny thing is we were in the middle of all the other tables so it's very hard to miss us. This one older white waiter gave us rude looks yet smiled and laughed with the other diners. We are the average American family with well behaved kids having a nice dinner. We felt so out of place yet made fun of the situation so we could relax and enjoy ourselves. We paid in cash and left a nice tip because we have class. We left there in a hurry and went to J and 19th street to have our dessert at Peet's Coffee & Tea and felt right at home with the people sitting in and outside with there hot drinks chatting and being REAL people and a peaceful protest on the corner to end the war in Iraq. Never again will we give our well earned money to a place that put their noses in the air and treat everyday people the way we were treated.

Im sorry but you should take your kids to an uspcale resturant and then get pissed because people are wondering why they are there. If you are the all american family then go to a mc donalds or a jaspers or soemthing not a nice resturant. Also just because people have money, you should scoff and call them stuck up. Thats not class
"tharlowsucks" whatever that means. You must work for Biba? Hey in these hard economic times all businesses should be glad they are getting any business. And just because we are an average American family doesn't mean we can't dine where we please. You must not have kids and must have forgotten you were once a kid. As I said in my review they are well behaved and quiet when we are in a nice place as Biba's. Why did you apologize for us? I wasn't "pissed" and I don't like that word just upset at how we were overlooked. I never said they had money either so you must just assume things. You must be a coroporate executive who raked in a bonus on the taxpayers money. I don't like you whoever you are. You're mean and you don't have class.
