Patient Gets the Boot and a Warning: I have been a patient since 1999. I had a good relationship. The injections were painful, but tolerable - and they worked well.
However the handing of the oral medication for me was disappointing.
Whatever you do, avoid being put you on Methadone. It is a good pain medication, but it has some insidieous conseq. Be forwarned that once you start taking the drug no other opiate based medication will work.
For example, if you are on methadone and you get in a car wreak and are buned or whatever, morphine, demeral, etc will not work until 72 hours has passed. After you have gone through 72 hrs. of withdrawls, the "real" pain medications will start to be effective. So politly decline and ask for MS Contin, Morphine Sulfate or Oxycontin. Also, ask for a "break through" medication like the fast acting Oxy IR or oxycodone.
I tried and tried to get this therapy, but I was rebuked and treated like a 'druggie'. Finally after personal and a breach of their "rules regarding other doctors and getting Rxs' from my Primary Care Physician, I was kicked out of Chico's only "pain clinic".
This was a very, very discouraging episode in my quest for pain relief.
