I had reservations for four for Sat the 21st of Feb for 7:00 pm, my party ordered prime rib and were told they were out already, they told us the soup of the day way cream of artichoke but when we got to the salad bar they were out of that too. We ordered at approximately 7:20. At 8:30 we got up and left for our show at the casino without eating. Two of our party, myself, and my girlfriend who traveled 420 miles for this event, missed the show, that's $25. per ticket, and no dinner. I called the GM Tues. afternoon and complained and was told "Sorry, we get busy sometimes" That's it, no complimentary anything. No nothing. I told the GM that I am a business owner and that the other Gent with me was also a business owner in Paradise. I guess the Western Pacific GM doesn't value our business. I have been dining at the Depot since the early '80s. I think I'm done spending money there, and driving a 50 mile round trip to have no dinner followed by "Sorry, we're just too busy!" I think I'll post a notice on my bulletin board at my place of business warning others to eat elsewhere. You know the old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, etc."
The Depot "had" been a restaurant that more than met our expectations until last night. My food was below average, prawns/me (overdone and chewy), guest/blackened catfish special (fair). The clam chowder was lukewarm and obviously a food service frozen soup not made from scratch in the restaurant. We ordered the "famous" zucchini strips that were greasy and left in the fryer too long, served with sour cream instead of Ranch dressing or a chipotle sauce. With only about 8 tables filled in the entire restaurant, the service was poor with a defensive waitress who was unable to find our bar tab (1 Bud light) and left us waiting at the register while she searched for the amount owed (a mere $2.75 when I had offered $6.00 to get us moving). I left an $8.00 tip for a $38.00 tab when typically I tip half the tab and sometimes the entire tab. I mention this because the wait staff needs to realize that customer service is as important as the quality of the food and many consumers value good service. People are gravitating to the casinos in the area, but we had hoped to spend our dollars on a privately owned restaurant. Unfortunately when I stated our dissatisfaction at the register, the attitude was defensive and no desire for "service recovery" a Disney principal that at the minimum requires good listening skills not a debate. What may have been recovered at the end was lost with us vowing never to come back and resulting in my first bad review of a local restaurant. We are frequent visitors to Old Sacramento and the Napa Valley where service is as valuable as delicious food. Perhaps we were expecting too much in our local community.
