Brass Reed

Tom, the owner of the Brass Reed, is a throwback to the days of friendly, personal, knowledgeable customer service. When my son took up the sax two years ago, I did what I typically do these days when I'm making a purchase--I went online. But, soon I was feeling overwhelmed, and it was obvious I'd make a wiser purchasing decision with someone in my corner. And, I wanted to keep my dollars local, if I could, especially with such a large item.

Within minutes of walking into Tom's shop, I knew I'd made the right choice. With no pressure whatsoever, he talked to my son to get a feel for his commitment to playing long-term, then educated me in quick order and made several recommendations. He talked me away from the low end but away from going overboard as well, and the price he asked for an above-average alto sax was not only better than what I'd found online, it came with the promise of ongoing assistance and support any time we wanted to drop by--something no online seller can offer.

Two years later, my son is still playing his sax, loving it, and faithful to Tom because of the warm service he provides. It's possible we'll be upgrading to a baritone sax in the near future, and I know where I'll be heading when the time comes. Anyone looking to purchase an instrument in Redding would be wise to do the same.

Great staff .....: I was really impressed that the gentlemen that I spoke to on the phone spent so much time and effort helping learn more about the flute. Not only that, but I took a trip to the shop and he let me try out a few of the flutes he had in stock, so I could get a feel for the quality and style of different brands. Definitely a hard find these days, great customer service.
