My wife and I had dinner here last September. Like the ambience, the service struck a pleasing balance between stuffiness and the intrusive informality affected by so many servers these days. The food was not consistent, however; my wife's entree was so overly salted as to be nearly inedible, while mine was quite good. The server suggested a very nice wine. Given the economy, I'm not sure we'd go back for a second try. At the prices this restaurant charges, I believe patrons have a right to expect more consistency. Admittedly, we enjoy cooking and are very picky; for us, it's all about the food: everything else is secondary. I'd say this restaurant is certainly worth trying once.
My family and I reserved the 5:30 seating for my wedding dinner the weekend of March 1st, 2008. The food, service and wine were some of the best I've ever experienced! All our our guests raved about the food and we even heard from many that their salmon dish was the best they had ever tasted. The presentation was beautiful, the atmosphere quaint and the chef fabulous! I couldn't have chosen a better place for our wedding dinner.
I live in Florida and went to Lake Tahoe on vacation and was lucky enough to eat at Evan's Cafe. We arrived at the restaraunt over an hour before our reservation and several minutes before they opened. Yet, they let our party in and began serving us right away. The service was outstanding and the food, wonderful. We had the filet and pheasant along with the goat cheese with shrimp and crab appetizer. The atmosphere was of a quaint bistro and the food cooked to perfection.
If you are considering visiting Lake Tahoe, Than Evan's is a must for your special occasion dinner. It was recomended to me and I recomend it to others. The cost of the meal was $150.00 for three entre's, one appetizer, one salad, and several drinks. Not bad!!
