We went there looking forward to a nice cold beer because their Coors, Miller, etc. beer signs were lit up. When we sat down and ordered, they told us they were having problems with their liquor license so they couldn't serve us liquor. They said we were welcome to get something at KTA and bring it back for a $2 corking fee.
BEWARE! That's only $2 for bringing in beer. We got wine and brought it back. On our bill, they charged us $15 for corking our own wine !
Then they charged us for bread with dinner and refills for soft drinks. I felt like we were on an airline or at a bank.
Food was fair.
I would not go back.
Go to Merriman's.
This restaurant is one of the best steakhouses and Italian restaurants you can find. Comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, you can dress if you want or go casual, no problem. The food is outstanding, not merely good, but excellent!!! Prices are good and the portions are very nice. No hunger problem for sure! Quality remains Steve and Kim's forte (the owners). Just for your information, Steve was at the helm of Donatoni's at the Hilton Waikoloa Village the year it won Best Italian Restaurant and Most Romantic Italian Restaurant in the State of Hawaii, Zagat's review no less. Kim also worked in culinary at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Talent for sure. Enough said, you will love this restaurant, casual bar area (with appropriate menu), and the dining room is well done.
I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF EATING AT THIS RESTAURANT A FEW TIMES DURING MY STAYS ON THE BIG ISLAND AND MUST AGREE WITH ALL THE REVIEWS. THE FOOD IS GREAT, THE SERVERS ARE WONDERFUL AND I HAVE EVEN MET THE CHEF OWNERS, STEVE AND KIM. THEIR FOOD IS GENUINE, TOP QUALITY. I SUPPOSE THAT THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT REALLY MUST HAVE A BUG UP THEIR YOU KNOW WHAT. YOU CAN NOT FIND A FINER DINING EXPERIENCE ANY WHERE ON THE ISLAND. AS A MATTER OF FACT I WAS SPEAKING TO A COUPLE FROM HONOLULU WHO HERE VISITING AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS HARD TO BEAT ON OAHU. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYTHING ON THIS MENU.
