Authentic & Tasty!: We're a couple of folks from the "Really Big Island" (the mainland) who vacationed in Hawai'i this Xmas and tried Eastern Paradise with my folks (who are regulars) this Thursday for lunch.
The location - clean, a bit contemporary, and functional. There are a few decorative items around the restaurant, but the lines are simple and classic.
The service - The place was absolutely PACKED for lunch on Thursday, and we were the ONLY folks who weren't of Oriental descent. The owners know my parents well, but the kitchen was unusually slow... leaving us waiting for our food for a good 20-30 minutes. Otherwise, the service was quite good.
The food - Be careful if you get the chicken, folks... they don't remove the bone or gristle from the chicken before cooking. It's as if they just took a huge meat cleaver to a whole chicken and chopped the bejeezus out of it. We had the Spicy Garlic Chicken (note above applies!), Princess Prawns (The BEST entree we tried. YUM!), and Mongolian Beef as entrees. The Peking(?) Fried Rice (combination of all sorts of stuff in there) was INCREDIBLE! This is a must for you "flied-lice" lovers.
Overall - The experience was definately positive. The food quality and flavors go a long way towards "making up for" the other problems we experienced. I would suggest this to any of my friends, family, or a complete stranger with confidence.
Cheers!
