| About: | The upcountry equivalent of Alexander's Fish & Chips is just a bit bigger and features a more extensive menu with slightly higher prices. The eatery is located in the center of Paia, amidst dozens of quaint shops, galleries and bakeries. It serves a dozen kinds of fresh local fish in a variety of different ways. The selection varies daily. Fish and chips or delicious fish tacos are cheaply available and make a full meal. The seafood pasta garners rave reviews. There is a decent beer list. |

This is a great restaurant in Paia Maui. My favorite is the seafood Caesar salad - it's a great big Caesar salad with a slab of grilled Mahmahi and 2 big prawns. Oh, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! The place always seems to be busy, and no wonder.
Best Bang for Buck on Maui: We travel to Maui annually to 1) bask in the sun and 2) savor the best fish dishes on earth. Whereas the majority of the good restaurants on this isle can put a major dent in your wallet (David Paul, Spago's, Sansei, Roy's and Nick's to name some of our favorite high-ends), there are 2 hidden gems on the island where you can get the freshest fish on the cheap. 1) Kaanapali Beach Hotel snack shack ($8 mahi mahi sandwiches) and 2) Paia Fish Market. Mahi Mahi burger. Ono burger. Opah burger. Opakapaka burger. You can't go wrong! Eat one there, take a couple to go on the Hana Highway. And when you come back disappointed from Mama's Fishhouse (yup, call me blasphamous for thinking Mama's is overpriced and overrated), swing around PFM and get 5 fish burgers for the price of a single Mama's entree, without skimping on quality and freshness!
Don't miss the Mahi Mahi sandwich: This is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant located at the one traffic light in Paia. You could miss it, but if you walk by you'll see that the place is packed all day. It's very low key, and most people will probably be wearing their bathing suits and sitting with a beer at one of the family-style wood tables. The mahi-mahi sandwich (called a "burger", not sure why), is amazingly moist and yummy (I tried one the next day somewhere else and was really let down). They also have sashimi and a bunch of other seafood items that looked yummy. I'll definitely eat here more than once on my next trip to Maui.
