| About: | Knife-wielding chefs put on a dazzling display nightly at this steakhouse at the north end of Waikiki. Steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster and vegetables are prepared on a traditional teppan grill with great theatrical flair. With a sumptuous sushi bar, comfortable lounge area and great location, this restaurant is a treat. Whether or not you're already familiar with Japanese tableside cooking, it's worth a visit. There is another location on Maui in the old whaling town of Lahaina. |

Service was lousy and the food was not very good. Prices too high.
This had to have been one of the biggest wastes of money EVER!!! The food was way over priced for the portion sizes, $4 extra per person if you want fried rice instead of steamed, and a small sized soda for $3 with no refills, if you want a refill, it is then $2.50. Service was awful, the show left a lot to be desired, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!! We even left smelling like fried food, and my son had an asthma attack because there was no ventilation and all of the smoke came right at us. AWFUL, absolutely awful.
This had to have been the worst experience dining out ever! I have lived here in Hawaii all my life and KOBE Japanese Staek House was a yearly destination and one of my most favorite restaraunts despite the heat, the smokiness and the steap prices. It was a very emotional Christmas, I had just lost my job of 27-years and it was also my daughter's birthday. It had always been a family tradition that the person celebrating their birthday always gets to pick the restauraunt that they would most love to celebrate this special occassion and she loved KOBE, so KOBE it was. My last paycheck for the year was a grand total of $89.00, but I was not going to let that stop me from giving my daughter her dream dinner and a small Christmas gift all in one. The dinner was satisfying as was expected and she was happy eating all her favorite dishes. I paid the bill and left what I could afford to as a tip considering my unemployment status, which was about $5.00 but if not for my unemployment status I would have gladly left much more. The bill was close to $100.00, but I needed the balance of what I had brought for the evening to pay for the valet parking and the valet-boy's tip. As I got up to leave our dinning table, the elderly local Japanese waitress stopped me at the table and shoved her hand outwardly towards my direction and in a loud voice said "where my tip, this not enough" !!! She positioned herslef between me and the aisle that led to the exit door in the cramp restaraunt. I was absolutely mortified as everyone at the table looked up at me and my daughter who was thoroughly embarrassed at this point and visibly upset at this very selfish and stupid waitress. I hurriedly took out another $5.00 and gave it to her and stormed out of the restaraunt. For myself I could have eventually overlooked this very heartless behavior from the waitress, but because this was daughter's special dinner it was totally unforgiveble. The service "sucks" and never improves, it is very hot because they don't maintain their AC in good working order. My issue is with the total absence of "adequate-service" that the staff falls short of. All that the waitress can be credited for is that she brings water and serves the rice bowls. The full credit of the meal must go to the chef who does the cooking and all entertaining. What would qualify that this insensitive waitress would come to expected and "DEMAND" to be tipped for the efforts of the chef. I agree with the previous visitors regarding the attitude of the "staff" as extremely lacking in customer care, compassion for their customer's expectations for this expensive meal and definitely employing a unique sense of attention to detail that would compliment the total dinning experience. I have since regained my job back, but I will not WAIST my time and or more of my haqrd earned MONEY at this establishment ever again. KOBE you "suck" big time !!! What your staff did to me and my daughter was UNFORGIVEABLE !!!!!!!!
