| About: | Tucked away on the third floor of a nondescript office building in the Mo'ili'ili district is one of Honolulu's best restaurants. Celebrity chef Alan Wong marries fresh local ingredients with a solid French cooking foundation and spectacular, towering presentations. Wong likes to describe his cooking as "playful," and each dish has an element of surprise. An extensive wine listranging from inexpensive blush wines to rare California estate vintages (Arujo Eisele Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1994, USD325)complements the menu. The prix fixe meals with wine pairings are truly a gastronomic feast for even the most hedonistic. The 7-course feast will take approx 2.5 hours as they allow time to partake of each course in a very relaxed manner - allowing you to savor the perfect pairing (for the most part) of their prix fixe courses. The soup and sandwich has to be tried - a "grilled cheese" sandwich of kalua pork, foie gras, and some kind of melted cheese paired with a chilled tomato soup - it's really to die for. If you consider yourself one who lives to eat, try the prix fixe (seven course - go for it, you only live once). Absolutely the biggest bang for the buck for a fine-dining experience.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsExcellent! My favorite dish is the penne in black bean sauce. But honestly, everything I've tried is wonderful. I would definitely recommend this Alan Wong's to anyone who is looking for a romantic dinner.
