I really enjoy eating here. Not all of the food is amazing but it is good. There are not a lot of options for dining out other than mexican and fast food in The Dalles so I am grateful for the Baldwin Saloon. Don't go there expecting a fine dining experience like you would in Portland. But do try the Baldwin if you love french onion soup. The french onion soup there is TO DIE FOR!
Over rated. Had the halibut which was OK. The couscous was like mush and looked like they slapped in down on the plate with a garden spade. The vegetables looked and tasted like they had been boiled for about about a hour. Meal presentation was very poor for a a supposed Mid/upper scale place. Appetizer, Meal, two beers with tip was about 50 bucks. Service was fair. Save your money.
After a long day of hiking and sightseeing we thought we were just going to grab something to eat and then hit the hay. After we walked in the door it was apparent this was going to be something a little better then that. Had some good beer at the bar while we listened to rag-time on the piano. Then we were served a great meal. We had the Salmon Rockefeller & Halibut DeChef. Also, the service was impeccable. The building (est 1876) is one of the first buildings built in The Dalles.
