The other entrees at Kappaya are tantalizing as wellthick curries served over rice or baked teriyaki salmon that melts in your mouth. Even the miso soup is a masterpiece. Sake and beer are available from the bar.

This was my worst dining experience in Pdx! My date ordered Japanese curry. We both agreed when it arrived that it looked quite unappealing. Interesting since Japanese are so into aesthetics and beauty. He wanted to substitute it for another entree, and the manager refused. What happened to the customer is always right? What I had was mediocre at best. I love Japanese cuisine, but wouldn't rcommend this restaurant.
I love Kappaya house - great sushi at good prices. Not a lot of 'fancy' rolls, but all the basics are here. Appetizers are well-portioned - Good miso, great seaweed salad, the veggie tempura is nice and light, edamame is fresh and there is plenty to share. Try the Crunchy roll! Kappaya house was one of the first restaurants I found when I moved to Portland and it continues to be one of my favorites.
I have not been to all the other stores in Portland, but I went to some, and found that this store was the first one that I could hear the staff speaking Japanese in. And the food tasted just like in Japan.
