Best all around dining in Portland...: Caprial's is a restaurant that you can count on not to disappoint. The menu changes frequently, so it's always interesting. And, the owners actually care about their patrons. How many times have you had the host of a television show wait your dining table -- and bus it when you're finished? The Caprials don't need to do this, but if they're in the restaurant, and they see you need service, they work the room, just like the rest of the staff.
I've eaten at many of the finest eating establishments in the U.S., and frankly, for the money, Caprial's is in the top 10, no matter what kind of meal you're looking for. And, while there are a number of other great Portland restuarants, if you need a meal you can count on, Caprial's Bistro is the place to be!
Expensive, but a nice treat: The food was great. I had the season fish (salmon served with black risotto) and my wife had the steak (with mashed potatoes). Both meals were excellent. Our server was great, too. Very attentive and knowledgeable. My wife had a raspberry lemondrop, which she said was excellent.
Only two downsides to this place. One downside was the limited menu (only four dinner meals); the other was the price. We didn't expect it to be so expensive. With two dinners, a drink, a dessert, and the tip, we paid $80. We definitely won't be going there every week, or even every month, but it's a nice place to go for once-in-a-while occassions.
