Loved it!: The decor is strictly 1960s urban diner, but the service and dim sum were unbeatable. Very good value, great location. We tried a wide variety of foods and none disappointed. Brusk but efficient service. Will go back regularly.
I go whenever I'm in town: Fong Chong's has the best dim sum in Portland. The food is always fresh, and the servers are willing to get special requests. The dishes are fantastic, and the place is always packed for lunch. The place is reminiscent of a cafeteria, though it does have a semi-private party room. If you like Chinese Dim Sum and are tired of the gaudy red and gold dragon decorations of average chinese restaurants try Fong Chongs.
what makes a good Chinese restaraunt?: This place is classic, formica tables, florecent lighting, surrley waiters, hanging ducks, the works. This is the fomula for finding a good Chinese place. This place is 100% as good as it get's for dim sum authentisity. It reminds me of the places in Hong King I used to go to. Their fry is fabulous. good, clean, hot oil. The waiters are crabby and surly and a delight because of it, very entertaining to be abused liked that. It's great if you want a quick snack or a full on gut bustin' meal. Thier seafood is out of this world! The shrimp is huge and correctly cooked if you prefer and entree to dm sum. Try the more unusual items, i have found thier americanized dishes are pretty mediocre. Although they are now offering dim sum in the evenings also, i would recomend going during lunch since it's much more fun.
