| About: | Many mornings, customers wait outside in chilly rain or mist for their tables here. Luckily, the awning area has heaters. And while breakfast here is worth the wait, it is made interesting by the offbeat clientel. Ordinary breakfast dishes are prepared in unexpected ways, pancakes with ginger or scrambled eggs and salmon. Try the Chorizo and Pepper Omelet with Brie and Tomato. There is a lunch menu, but breakfast is served all day and it is the specialty. The restaurant serves beer and wine and great Bloody Marys. |

We've been going to Zell's for over 20 years now and the food is as good as every. The German Pancake (plater sized) with Rhubarb Sauce is to die for. And their Egg's Bennidict variations are fantastic too. Before you even order a plate of fresh home baked light scones are served with butter and jam.
The only problem is the crowds & wait on Sunday Mornings, and the limited parking in the neighborhood, but it's worth the wait.
It's a neighborhood breakfast place that has not forgot its roots.
My wife and I found "Zell's an American Cafe" on "Portland's Yahoo! Local" and the reviews looked good so we went this morning.
We had the eggs benedict and a potato dish with veggies and cheese. We rated both a 10.
"Hope" was our waitress and was totally nice to deal with. Our coffee, which was very good, never got less than halfway down before she politely refilled it.
Hope also took the time to recommend several good dinner spots in Portland for us to try (Zell's serves breakfast and lunch only). She is a fabulous ambassador for the city. Service was 10.
We look forward to returning and trying more of their creations such as the salmon benedict.
God I love the internet: I found this place on this website and I am so glad I did. This place was small but the food was amazing! It closed a little early for my lifestyle, but I would definitely get up earlier just to make it to Zells for breakfast. You should check it out! The staff was great, it's in a cute part of town, th food was fast and fantastic! Go there!!
