| About: | This Chinese restaurant was the talk of the Hawthorne neighborhood when it first opened its doors in 1990. The savory tastes of Asia had not yet found their way into this area of coffeehouses and boutiques. Now, the restaurant is a landmark and continues serving Chinese fare. The copious menu selections, most of which are MSG-free, range from daily specials to vegetarian lo-mein noodles. The Crispy Eggplant is sour, spicy and somehow creamy. As the servers fly by with overflowing plates, sit back and enjoy a cold domestic or import beer. |

You have to try it!!: I searched all over portland for some good moo-shu and my search ended yesterday. I drove 45 min. just to get my food and when I arrived I was astonished to find a quant comfortable eating environment run be the nicest people I have ever met. I would recomend this restaraunt for so many reasons!!
Favorite Lunch Spot: The service here is always fast. Go in for lunch monday-saturday for the lunch special $4.95-$6.95 all come with soup and rice. I recommend the Sczhwan Beef, it is bar-none the best in town.
Best Chinese I've ever had!!: We found this restaurant by accident and I'm so glad we did. Basically, the place isn't anything to dazzle on the outside nor is it on the inside. But, the food makes up for any lack at all in ambiance! The first time I went I got an Egg Flower Soup which left me "oohing" and "aahing" through the whole bowl. And, my boyfriend got the Spicy and sour soup which I tasted...I had made my mind up just with the soups to come back, and we did only three days later!
The vegetable lo mein is made with a perfect blend of spices and vegetables and the spring rolls are piping hot and made with a beautifully delicate pastry crust. And, to add to the wonderful food, the service is very, very good. Your water glass will never be empty, as they are prompt to fill it when it lingers at the halfway mark:) And, to add to a wonderful meal you can walk away from a meal consisting of an appetizer, soup and entree (feeling completely stuffed) for two and only pay 25.00! Oddly enough, in a place where everything has such a authentic Sechuan and Hunan taste, the rice was only mediocre.
I recommend this restaurant to everyone and anyone who wants to experience a Chinese dish that those chain restaurants can't even come close to offering.
