| About: | The curries here are definitely what this Indian restaurant is all about. Medium-hot is just spicy enough to give you the flavor of India without scorching your taste buds. If you like your curry with a bit more flash, be sure to order it hot. Fish Almond mahi mahi in a copper-colored curry is a favorite. If curries do not please your palate, order the India Grill Combo Platter with Meat Samosa, Chicken Pakora and Leeko. |

I've been there twice and both times the food was very good. Unfortunately, both times the service was POOR, so much so that I won't go back. It's really a shame because the situations that we encountered could have been very easily resolved. On both visits, I requested that they add a few pieces of potato to my chicken tikka masala. This should have been very simple since they already had potatoes prepared for use in other dishes. They flat out refused. The only explanation they offered was "potatoes aren't in the recipe for chicken tikka masala and we don't deviate from the recipe." No amount of pleading on my part made a difference - they simply wouldn't honor my very simple request.
The second time we went there we took another couple with us; it was their first time there. Once again I tried to get a few pieces of potato added to my chicken tikka masala and once again I was denied. This time, however, they disappointed us in another way as well. After we'd finished our dinners and dessert we stuck around for awhile to talk. Our server (the same one who denied my request for potatoes) came to our table and said that they had a reservation for a window table, that the party had arrived, and that we needed to leave so that they could accommodate the reservation. Needless to say, we were appalled. They didn't even offer to move us to a different table (of which there were several available).
Needless to say, neither we nor the couple who joined us will go back to India Grill. It's too bad because we really enjoyed the food. We simply won't put up with their arrogant approach to service.
No fresh chillies? Seriously this is indian food right? No fresh coriander on the dish? called a vindaloo but its just a mild gravy... could have been good, I wanted it to be as I am so fond of indian food, but it was a massive let down. The Shami kabab was good, but it was part of a $16 mixed grill, and the rest of the grill was awful dried up leftovers.
Dined 11/10/2008 with my family. Food is very good. The palak paneer was rich and flavorful. The naan (both garlic and plain) were not that great - each was a bit dry. My past experience with good naan is that it comes in long loaves that are steaming hot, chewy, and tangy from yogurt in the dough. This naan had none of that going on. This is the first Indian fare I have had since living in Portland. I would definitely go back again as the food was good, the service was good, and the restaurant was clean. Had the naan been better, I would have kicked it up a star.
