The original Jackpot on Hawthorne (that's moved at least twice I think) set a whole new style & theme for Portland record stores: a good but different - not quite eclectic, which would be off-putting - but a very diverse set of genres that are well stocked in vinyl and CD, with nothing but fair prices. Plus a touch of the old long-but-not-forgotten "Locals Only" music shop idea.
I have four Jackpot stickers on my car for a reason. And they help put on special release parties and shows as well, much like Music Millenium. They're not as bug as MM and Everyday Music, but on the other hand, if you're like me, you'll find great stuff quickly, vs. spending 1-2 hrs at the other places playing "discover the hidden treasures". I wouldn't pick a favorite out of the three, since they all fill a niche and are wonderful in their own ways. The staff is fun, good for recommendations, and they really promote great bands, both national and local. Just watch your wallet, because it's very easy to leave with a big bag of music but a major dent wherever you keep your money.
