Great food, service can be slow: The Thompson House is the neglected child of the McMenamins' chain of brewpubs. The food is great, the beer is incredible, but the Thompson has always suffered from understaffing. On a slow day, it's great. But during the summer, when the seating capacity more than doubles, the staff is still kept to a minimum. Forty-five minute wait times on food are an average, not just an exception, on summer evenings. Great food, great beer, but the seating capacity just far outweighs the kitchen, bar and server capacity. Stop by for lunch and enjoy the historical building's many rooms, but be sure to make reservations for parties of six or more.
