Do ***NOT*** go to WaMu for your home mortgage! I had been a loyal customer of WaMu for years. Loved their free checking and thought I'd use them to purchase our new home. It was an AWFUL experience. Everyone told us not to use them -BOTH real estate agents involved with the purchase, our neighbor, our title company, -everyone. But I thought "they've always been good to me"...but everyone was right. We almost ended up homeless (our house settled & sold, yet unable to move into our new home) because of WaMu. Thankfully, the sellers of our new home allowed us to move in, even though WaMu had not yet released the funds -even though everything was signed, sealed, and done! It was an absolutely awful experience. -Our local guy tried to help somewhat, but their Chicago office cussed him out for trying! -We could hear them through his phone! And since they required auto-withdraw of our mortgage in order to lower the mortgage % rate, they have since screwed up my checking account -charging me fees for my "free" checking account. It has taken FOUR months to get that straightend out. I am leaving WaMu as fast as I can and will never look back. -And on top of that, as we were going through all of this, they were giving the non-profit I volunteer with a hard time too. They insisted we go back to the original branch where we opend the account to make simple changes but would not tell us which branch that was (and our Treasurer who opened the account had long since stopped volunteering)!! Again, we had never had any issues with them and then suddenly -WHAM! Nothing but issues. The non-profit has gone to Umpqua instead... RUN, don't walk, away from WaMu.

Best bank but keep track of your deposits: We have had a checking account with WaMu for three years. They have great customer service. Only one problem so far. I made a large ATM deposit. It was not credited to my account and a bank search could not find the funds. Luckily I found my deposit slip and got my account credited. So, keep your deposit slips! Other than that, this has been the best bank I have ever used.

Best Banking Bank!: I love this Washington Mutual. I've had an account here for years, and then I moved to Colorado. I opened another Washington Mutual account in Boulder, and they were great too! They continue to outshine any other bank I've ever done business with!
