Chalet Restaurant & Bakery

When we visited the Chalet Restaurant and Bakery in Newport we were very disappointed. Service was terrible and the food was worse. The red snapper was as dry as jerky and I pulled out almost ten bones. The server never came back to the table and when we complained at the front desk the reaction was as if they didn't care. When I asked if there was a manager we could talk to we were told that our server was the acting supervisor for the night. When I attempted to inform the owner of the issue I was treated as if I had insulted her personally and she didn't want to hear it. After managing restaurants for years I found this restaurant to be poorly ran and extremely unprofessional.

Went to the Chalet because all of the restaurants in the historic district were packed. Good thing because this place is great. Very friendly staff and great home-style food at a decent price. Ended up coming back a second time. Awesome pie selection as well.

The only thing I would change is the water. Although no fault of the Chalet, Newport’s water tastes like it came from an aquarium – nasty.

Just too boring for me. The prices and menu are ok. The pies aren't very good anymore. The pies aren't as high as they use to be. The food is just bland and boring. There is plenty of parking. The inside is dull and reminds me of my grandmas place. I feel that it could use a makeover inside and the menu. The fish is not good I would stick with hamburgers, pancakes, the easy stuff.
