One of the best things about Jerry's in the past was the depth of knowledge. Not only product knowledge about what was on the shelf, but if they didn't have an item, they could order it in for you. If you needed it the same day, and they didn't have it they'd call a competitor to see if they had the item for you. You could go there, and get the item or at least be rest assured that they would help you find a solution.
Recently it seemed like it's changed to just Have it, or Order it.. asking some salespeople I've known for years why the change.. it's apparently now company policy to *never* refer customers to competitors. As in refer a customer to a competitor, lose your job. They used to be kings of *customer* service, now they draw the line at helping the customer if it means helping them find the item at another store.
Can you blame a company for not wanting to send customers to a competitor? Not really.. did it make them better than Home Depot when it came to going out of their way to help a customer? Sure did.. They never seemed to let Home Depot effect how they did business, but now that Lowes is in town that tune seems to be changing.
In general they're still better than average, but once they started drawing lines in the sand they wouldn't go past to help a customer they left the realm of world-class in the customer service department. And when the big thing that made you stand out from your competition *was* customer service, that is a bad direction to be going. I hate to think about where they'll be in 5 years.
Jerry's hates Lassie! Business must be good. I just bought an 1880's Queen Anne Victorian and I need lots of new stuff. I came in with $2500 cash in hand to buy a shower unit and all the things I need to restore the 1920's apartment in the back. I was in the middle of shopping with my Collie when this kid with a radio came and told me they no longer allow dogs. My girl is the spitting image of Lassie and going to the hardware store is the one treat we get to do together. In fact, the children who shop with thier parents always enjoy going to the store to see Kells. I try to shop locally but after that, I'll keep going back to Home Depot. Kells misses the milk bones HD employees always give her anyway. I am sure Jerry's customers were scratching thier heads as they watched the guy kick out Lassie!
Great Store. Very Helpfull. Literaly ever employee you walk by that isn't helping a customer asks if they can help you with anything. Something I haven't experienced anywhere else.

Wow! What a sad day for the big baby. I came from Southern California and I never understood why Jerry's was so popular. Once I started shopping there I realized why. They have knowledgable, caring and great customer service. Did this person really have to bring Lassie. Come on! Sounds like a wierdo who has to have it his way. You might as well stop shopping everywhere if you can't bring Scooby. What a joke. He either is a Vegan or a wierd old man. You sound like a kid who never heard no in your life. I guess out of the hundreds of people I know who share the same feeling towards there service there always has to be one. Except your issue sounds like a dumb issue unless you are blind or handicap. Yeah go ahead and head to Home depot so you can wait for someone to help you. (NOT!) Yeah go ahead and go to Home Depote where about 60% of the workers know what your asking for. (NOT!) I hope you reviewers make a short comment if you feel the same way. I am seriously not a homer but when you get a person who will knock a local competitor because of a rule, it doesn't show much.
Keep your dumb dog at home. Seriously people. I am so tired of seeing yoor animals in stores. I guess at least this wasn't a grocery store. Crybaby.
Yea!!! I agree with "Leave your mutt at home" We all LOVE our dogs. We DON"T all love your dog! I will shop any store that bans non-service dogs over ones that let the mongrels in...
I couldn't believe you were complaining about not being able to take your dog in to Jerry's. Jerry's is a hardware store not a dog pound or doggie motel! I really wish you luck in shopping at Home Depot where they are all stupid. They also lie about what is on sale and what's not. I went to purchase some pergo flooring for my home at Home Depot and the sign says it was on sale. But then they told me it was something else that was on sale rather than what I had chosen. So I went to Jerry's and bought the flooring for $1.50 per square foot less than I would have paid at Home Depot. Jerry's actually stood behind their "sale"!! About the dog though, you really have to consider keeping Lassie at home where he belongs. There could be people out there that have allergies to animals and people really don't expect to have to go around an animal that is standing in the middle of the aisle. Get a life and find a better issue to complain about!!
I worked at Jerry's not to long ago and I really can't see how you can judge them by kicking out your dog, when right on the sign outside said NO PETS. Kicking you out has no relation to how awesome the customer service and quality Jerry's brings. So please, that's pathetic
