Well, What can one say about a little ol home town cafe with charges big city prices. The service was less that 4 out of 10 Setting was a 7 , music was a 3, Food was a poor 3 ( all courses), prices was a 2- you have to be kidding with a main course item at $49 and some starters have this. The value is a 2. The only saving point of Raphael's in that Pendleton is a great town to walk around and even find a great little cafe with charges a fair price for value. Raphael's should fire the cook and hire a real trained Chief.
Regards
We have now tried Raphael's Restaurant about 4 times (over a period of about 3 years) and finally we have said NO MORE.
The prices have been getting higher and higher but at the same time the quality of food has been getting worse. If I pay the prices they are asking I would expect to have professional service which one definately does not get. You can go in the middle of summer and still get hot house tomatoe's and no fresh, local produce. I usually eat fish and it is always over cooked and dried out. The menu is still back in the 1970 / 80's. No one ever seems to be in charge or even to care whether the customers are happy. If you want 'diner food' at very inflated prices that this is the place of you ........
Wonderful find - gourmet experience: Wow - an unexpected find as we drove through the rather sleepy town of Pendleton -- Raphael's is haute cuisine in a lovely rebuilt Craftsman-style home. Between us, we had the prime rib, trout and a pasta dish. All were excellent, as were the creme brulee, lemon sorbet and chocolate cake. Best of all, however, was the sauteed wild mushrooms starter. Chef Rob will provide you with the recipe, but be sure to order this dish -- it's amazing. Only wish we could have this great restaurant and reasonable prices in a major city somewhere!
