User Rating: 3 out of 5 starsAs far as atomosphere this is one of, if not the best in town. I have to been to Merenda's on 2 occasions and just had an okay experience. The service is below average and the food just a little above but not by much, lacks consistancy. One point nobody has mentioned but everyone I know that has been there has noticed is the noise level. It is impossible to have a conversation during busy times without yelling. For this reason alone I would recommend staying away. I for one will not be going back.
User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsNot Much of a Happy Hour: Two of my women friends and I had heard such great things about the Happy Hour at Merendas that we were anxious to try it. This isn't something we do often--so it was a big deal! Well, we each had a couple of drinks (because it was Happy Hour) and were surprised when the bill came that what we ordered wasn't included in the special prices. When we asked our waiter about it, he offered to check with the manager. We were told the menu is self explanatory and basically too bad. Well, obviously it wasn't self explanatory to any of the three of us. We told the waiter that unfortunately because of the misunderstanding and the attitude of the manager, we probably wouldn't be back. The waiter offered to comp our bill, but we didn't think that was his responsibility. We paid our bill, but left with a "bad" taste in our mouths--and not from our drinks (which were very good). We would have been very "happy" and much smarter about these kind of things if the manager had just apologized about the misunderstanding and had offered us the Happy Hour price,but instead we won't go back and neither will any of our friends. We've all three lived in Bend a long time and it's too bad we don't feel welcome in our down town. It surprises me that so many businesses still fail to see the importance of customer service.
User Rating: 1 out of 5 starsMerendas is all hype and nothing more: I'm new in Bend and the hype restaurant is Merendas. After dinning there once i'll never be back. The food is way too expensive for what it is. Very small portions, and as a cook myself, not that great in overall taste, pretty average of a flavor that you can get at any french style cusine restaurant. The next evening I went to Deschutes Brewery and honestly, was more impressed with their overall menu and food.

hey jackass. read the menu next time! if you ordered something not on happy hour, even though it's happy hour, its gonna be full price. "self-explanatory".
