First of all I took the woman of my life to Sushi Zen on only one thing the reviews of this web page, its very close to where we live so what the heck, take a risk...Let talk about looking like a smart guy. This was possibly the best Sushi I have ever had, the service is personal, friendly, prompt and beyond all of that, knowledgable in what we might like. I would recommend this place with all my heart. We vowed to come at least twice a month. the Calimari is soo good I almost lost my mind. The best. Please order small, you can always add, but you can always add. Also on Wednesday nights they advertise Jazz night, I'm not much of a jazz listener but it sounds fun...good food and live entertainment within a very small, friendly place.
To the Staff, I would personally like to thank you for your service, your attention, and most of all your smiles. By making us feel that we were the #1 Patrons of the night....My sincere thanks; see you again soon....PS...the walk was short so yeah we got to work off dinner....Jeff
First off, this is a very economical sushi place with very good quality (exceptions are listed below).
5 star for dinner and rolls, 4 star for lunch specials
Lunch was very good (is cheap for sushi...at around $10 depending on what you order). The sashimi cuts have just gotten worse over the last few months (like they leave a dark piece on the tuna that shouldn't be there...but it's still very fresh, i just don't like having to trim my own sashimi).
The rolls are very well executed. They have large variations in texture (a very good thing with sushi rolls), and all of their fish except for the yellowtail is always very fresh. (I don't hold the yellowtail against them, because I have yet to find a place in the Seattle metro that has fresh tasting yellowtail).
I also really liked their Lichi sake, but they have taken it off the menu now (it's a sweet fruit sake...the other fruit sake they have is green apple, which tastes like a jolly rancher which I don't really like).
Best sushi in Puget Sound!: I'm almost hesitant to write a review because then I'll be giving away my best restaurant secret. I love this place, though! They have the best sushi of anyplace I've ever been; the cuts are generous and fresh. I love the fried calamari appetizer with its tangy sauce and hidden onion ring. My husband and I go here on every special occasion and are never disappointed, although I do recommend reservations for holidays. They have a good selection of sake (starting at $12 bottle) and Japanese beers ($5-7). Their roll selection is inventive and varied. The wait staff is polite and friendly, and always obliging; they don't seem put out by any request. For two people, we usually spend about $85 for appetizers, dinner and drinks. I will never go anywhere else for sushi!
