I didn't know about this place until recently recommended by a friend. My husband and I went to eat with couple of our friends for the first time in August 2009 and now we only eat Thai foods at Chao Praya. We don't go anywhere else because it's consistently delicious every time. Chao Praya is a bit different from places like Racha or Simply Thai. The flavor is very authentic, believe me, I'm Thai!! I purchased some food for my aunt last weekend, and she likes the fried rice, and the papaya salad. I order Jungle fried rice and pineapple fried rice at Chao Praya every time I go there. Their spicy star rating is true to its rating! Don't order higher than 3 stars if you can't eat spicy! Their curry menu is good. We have tried chicken panang, forest curry (Gang Kua - which I thought was very good!), pad thai (generous portion), and pad kee mao. My favorite are the fried rice, gang kua, and pad kee mao. We like the price, the portion, and the service!
I left the puget sound area when i joined the military after sept 11th 2001. If i come back to visit family there are two places i like to eat at. Number one is French Indochine in Federal Way and Chao Praya is #2. I've eaten at many Thai restaurants in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain. These are my two all time favorites. The Phad Thai at Chao Praya is the very best i've had anywhere!!! This place is always very busy but well worth the wait. You'll love it.
The first time I tried to eat there, the line was out the door. The second time, I had the Chicken Panang, and it was the BEST chicken Panang I have ever had. I highly recommed this place! It is small, and gets very busy during lunch, but it is worth the wait.
