This restaurant advertises at the entry 1/2 price Wine on Mondays. We were planning a celebration and decided to try this Restaurant. It is placed on Lake Washington and looked appealing. The discount on wine made it more attractive.
Upon entering the Cafe we were seated properly and provided with cheap paper menu's. The selections indicated that everything was ala carte. The prices were quite high.
We ordered wine to begin with and then both of us ordered Clam Chowder. I ordered a crab louie, my wife ordered salmon.
When the soup was delivered it was in very large bowls, yet the soup portion was minimal. The soup appeared to be watered down to save costs and the amount of Clams in the soup were less then the number of fingers on one hand.
The Crab Louie was ridiculous... The plate had shredded Crab on some form a lettuce pieces, one egg cut in half and some avocado. On the side of the plate were a few pieces of a lettuce for appearances. When I pay to eat in a high end restaurant I expect to receive a decent meal. The taste of the crab indicated that it was getting ready to turn bad.
The Salmon looked good, but something was very wrong about it as my wife had horrible stomach cramps for the rest of the evening.
Then finally the bill arrived and I saw no discount for the wine. I asked the waiter, who by the way from the very beginning would not make eye contact with us, about the wine discount and he said that is for bottles of wine over $100.00. I told him to read the sign out front of the Cafe. He said he would be right back. The next thing I experience was a manager came by and said basically the same thing that the waiter stated. I told him he needed to adjust his bill accordingly as there was no disclosure that indicated that the discount was on bottles of wine over $100.00. He continued to argue till I raised my voice sufficiently that he realized I was not going to accept his excuse. Finally he said that he would discount the drinks this time ... but know that in the future that is there policy.
The Location and appearance of the Restaurant is the only positive part of the experience. The food was poor, watered down, unhealthy, the service was lousy, and the final stroke was the lies about the wine discount.
If you are planning to go to Kirkland, there are many nice restaurants to choose from .... what ever you do stay away from the Third Floor Fish Cafe!!!
I've eaten there a couple times for dinner and it was very good on both visits. The romaine salad with bacon, apple and roquefort is as tasty as any I've had. 3rd Floor has solid happy hour offerings including a burger for $2.50. The view from the bar isn't as splendid as Anthony's but it is an acceptable alternate.
Wonderful food, atmosphere, and staff!: I went to the Third Floor Fish Cafe, and let me tell you, they are amazing! Not only was the food absolutely superb, but the staff was wonderful. They anticipated all of our needs and made everything perfect!
Dungeness Crab Spring Roll, with Pickled Carrots, Mango Mustard Sauce was just delicious.
Grilled Prawns-Crispy Apple Wood Smoked Bacon, Soft Polenta & Lobster; the prawns were to die for, and the polenta & lobster melted in my mouth.
Alaskan Black Cod-Shiitake Mushroom Vinaigrette, Nikko Rice Cake & Mango Reduction; I donât know what to say about this wonderful dish, but that it was everything I expected and more!
I also had the pleasure of trying the key lime white chocolate crème brulee, which was a delightful blend of sweet and tart.
I WILL be going back to this delightful restaurant, and referring all my friends for their special occasions!
