A THOROUGHLY TERRIBLE PLACE.

Medias in res: I have overheard the superintendent of the Rainier Christian School District, a thoroughly frightening man, albeit with gaudy ties, saying a thing I can repeat here only with difficulties (for the sake of documentation), namely that it was his practice in his ‘Christian’ home to pray with his children before he (now comes the quote!) “beat the living daylight out of them.”

Right. Let that soak in. If one needs any more reasons NOT to send one’s children to a school district run by a person like this, I don’t know. It would be easy, however, to supply a long list of them.

Maybe this is another good reason: the place is erroneously named. Not much of Christian here (or not of that what believers, over 20 centuries, have understood when they said Christian). This entire Rainier Christian School District has nothing to do with Christianity, rather with an offensive, aggressive form of sectarianism and a thoroughly warped pseudotheology that Christ would be either ashamed of or very impatient with. Nor is there much of school visible in this District Rather, it is set upon indoctrinating young people in the bizarre mindset that its organizers have made their own, a disturbing concoction of premillennialism, Bronze Age mythology, and extreme right-wing politics. Yes, a misnomer. Out of ignorance or out of willful malice?

All schools of the Rainier ‘Christian’ ‘School’ district are certainly no place for children. They are danger zones. The buildings are dilapidated, safety standards are appalling, academic standards are sacrificed for the sake of drilling students in a set of preconceived ‘truths.’ These schools are places where children’s limbs, minds, and sanity are seriously jeopardized in the name of a perversion of the Christian faith.
