THe new Porta is worth the parking hassle: The new location of Porta is downtown on Virginia St. This is a step up from the local haunt that adorned Eastlake and I say what an improvement. The bar is gorgeous and has to be seen and is more New York than Seattle, and the setting is lovely and comfortable. The owner has improved on the quality of service too. The waitstaff seem more pleasant and the atmosphere is unique. Porta by the Market has transformed the average Greek food experience into a sensation for all the senses not just the palate. There is a feeling of fabulousness that makes each person feel like a VIP.
The food has shifted even more towards a new experience showing us that there is more to Greece than potatoes and Gyros. The elegant way the plates were displayed means that the Head Chef, now Evan Poulias, has been given room to be creative. The octopus salad needed some work for flavor but the presentation was worth every bite. The dip sampler was brought from the old location, is just wonderfully flavorful and had something that each of us liked. The lamb was melt in your mouth good and the flavor was really beautiful.
Porta by the Market is a step in the right dierction I look forward to seeing what else the menu has to offer down the road. Good Job Demetri!
