| About: | McCormick's Fish House & Bar is Seattle's classic seafood restaurant, reminiscent of traditional fish houses on the East Coast and San Francisco, and a Seattle dining institution for more than 30 years. Built in 1927 as Seattle's Oakland Hotel, the McCormick's Fish House building is now a bastion of old-Seattle in the shadow of the towering 76 story Columbia Center. Multi-level dining areas, aged dark wood and brass and walls thick with nostalgic memorabilia give McCormick's a traditional and intimate feel. McCormick's Fish House pioneered the "fresh sheet" in Seattle's restaurant scene. Originally featuring five or six items daily, today the restaurant features more than 20 varieties of fresh seafood listed daily on the ever-changing menu. The venerable bar features a full selection of liquors, beers, and an extensive wine list. McCormick's oyster bar also offers a wide selection of fresh oysters each day. |

Ate dinner with an out-of-town guest who selected the restaurant.
I'd not been there before, he selected it based on view of the water, he's from Kansas.
The wait staff was friendly, courteous and low-key (this is good).
The alcohol was properly served and of high quality.
The food? Well, the food was pretty average.
The bread was cold and somewhat doughy like it was frozen and defrosted on a counter top in a plastic bag. It was improperly cut so we had to pull it apart in big hunks, not really the right presentation for a finer dining experience. No bread knife was provided. They provided whipped unsalted butter which was bland.
My wife had pan fried oysters which were over-breaded, overcooked and not very plentiful.
My guest had salmon which was clearly overcooked and dry with poor presentation as it was placed over a mound of some weird overcooked vegetable slop.
I had seared ahi tuna which was served already sliced so it had already lost the texture that I was going for. This isn't the correct presentation for real ahi tuna, I never thought to ask. They attempted a sushi roll with the wrong kind of rice so it was mushy, plain and had poor mouthfeel.
Everything had the texture and temperature like it had sat on a counter for 15 minutes before getting to us.
When they showed the desert cart, holy crap it looked like plastic food because it had sat on the display tray for too long. NOT appealing.
Everyone in the place was clearly a tourist, I noticed this the second I walked in and knew what that meant.
This was a totally disappointing experience. The server was so rude (rolling eyes, huffing, etc) , we just couldn't believe it. He had an attitude and made the dinner not fun at all.
The food was marginal at best, with skimpy portions and fish that was raw in the middle. We had given the entertainment card to our server when we ordered. He seemed upset that we had a card and did not order hard liquor. The plates sat on the table well after we had finished and he never asked if our meals were ok. To top it off, the manager came to the table at the end of the meal to give us back our ENTERTAINMENT CARD saying they NO LONGER ACCEPT it. (Why didn't the server inform us from the start?). How embarrasing, especially when we were with guests! There are so many Seattle restaurants that are far better than this place, why would any one eat there? We had heard this was a marginal restaurant, but decided to give it a try anyway. Big mistake! They lost 4 customers for life.
I am an employee at this particular location.
It was the night before Thanksgiving and working among the 'Kitchen Supervisor' I watch as SHE made at least, perhaps, 10 Turkeys. Constantly, checking them, turning them, seasoning them, let me tell you she was on top of those Turkeys.
I went on with my duties. Break time. I was asked if I wanted a turkey dinner, "Of Course", I said, hoping it was the Turkey I was smelling and saw in the oven.
Lo' and Behold it was!.. the Turkey that that Kitchen Supervisor cooked and it was or must of been God sent because it was "seasoned correctly, color defined, terrificly tender and over-all... it... was... the best***** !!!!!"
Yes Five-Star Turkey, as I have never tasted before. Really!
That is how a Turkey is suppose to look and taste!!!!
Everyone on Thankgiving Day that ate some of that Turkey, knows that McCormicks Fish House and Bar in Seattle Washington on 4th Ave got "something special' going on and not only do they do seafood the best even Turkeys.
