intimate, classy, not snobby: Nice entrance, decor, music, small with nice artistic touches - a little darker lighting and would be over-the-top romantic.
The specials (fixed price 3 course menu) are great - not sub-par dishes - loved my jaegerschnitzel with spaetzle.
It doesn't take much imagination while there to transport yourself to a cozy restaurant in Zurich or Paris.
Excellent if you have very refined taste: Oh dear; I hate to ruin their perfect rating. But, I have to be honest about my opinion. This place has wonderful food, but some of the menu items scared me. I like meats to be cooked no less than medium, and I usually stick to more common meats as opposed to duck, ostrich, etc. Everyone else in my group loved everything though. I'm sure I liked my entree, but it's been a few months and I can't recall what it was. So whatever I ordered was not that memorable. But, the dessert and after dinner drinks were excellent. I thought the wine they recommended was horrible though. I would go back for a special occasion, but as a couple rather than a group. It's easier on finnicky eaters like me to have less people there who have a say in what's ordered. Snooty atmoshphere (the restaurant, not the people) in a charming sort of way. Excellent, warm service. Pricey.
Elegant but not pretentious.: This is our favorite all around restaurant in Seattle. We take friends there. We go alone. We take out of town guests and introduce Seattle natives to the best kept secret in the local restaurant scene. Geneve is a family owned restaurant. Hans Peter and Margret entertain you as if you are guests in thier home. With a friendly a greeting at the door and your coat quicly whisked off to the closet you at once feel like an honored guest. The menu is varied and each item is executed flawlessly. No detail is overlooked. Even something as simple as iced tea comes with a small pitcher of simple syrup as sweetener rather than the usual tray of pink, yellow, blue or white packets. The wine list is easily navigated, with many by-the-glass offerings. Watch for Swiss week in the summer or the special etiquete seminars for a real treat. Seattle is one of the most casual cities in the world with regard to dress codes at restaurants. Geneva is one of those places where you can be comfortable in a coat and tie or just slacks and a polo. Do not be surprised if Hans Peter comes out of the kitchen to see if you are enjoying the meal. I would give this 6 stars if that were possible.
