This is such a great place! My children and I had a fantastic time whle we visited. My daughter's favorite was the butterfly garden with hundreds of live butterflies, it was astounding. There were activities for children of all ages and even a cafe for lunch.
Believe it or not, I was in this museum for one afternoon in 1987 and still remember some of the really amazing displays. I was a teen, and with my grandfather, and to "cool" for kid's museums . . . when I walked in. A great place then. I hope they've kept the place up and that the curators still have the same attention to detail. I still vividly recall several of the interactive displays. Thanks, Seattle, for giving this midwestern girl a great, stimulating memory! And, thanks, grandpa. Rest in Peace!
Roar, Flutter, Buzzzzzzz: This is a terrific place to bring young children. There are slowly moving dinosaurs, lots of insects (including an actual bee-hive with living bees), a butterfly pavillion, lots of hand-on activities and a play area as well. For older children (and adults) there are areas directed towards health, learning about the physical body, tsunamis and space.
The cost is incredibly reasonable. I would suggest using the designated parking area rather than driving around for 20 minutes searching for a space in the neighborhood to save $5.
Bring some snacks along as there is an outdoor picnic area. They have also created a nursing area which is a major plus for mommies with infants. Expect to take a long time here to really enjoy it.
