My girls danced at Melanies for about 7 years. The first year for two was fine, but as time progressed things changed. I realized that the more money you made the more your kids were included.
My girls and my neices busted their behinds for Melanie-never to be appreciated, just because we were not "wealthy."
Be careful about the money spent on costumes because they are never what you pick out. They are usually a cheap, thrown together verion of what you were shown. The often times dont show up until the day of the recital.
My girls and I went from loving dance time, to totally dreading it. The teachers, and I use that term loosely, suck. The best teachers have left Melanie, to do their own thing. Teacher Jennifer, and Teacher Kim. My daughters last ballet teacher "Sharon" was awful. Melanie has become so fake. The whole place just lost its appeal.
Be careful of what you are getting into. Research many places before you decide on one. Your childrens self esteem may be the price.
Superb, friendly instruction: My children have learned under Miss Melanie's teachers for several years now. The instruction has always been excellent, and their big Spring Recital is a theatrical showpiece in its own right, giving my children a broader exposure to Performing Arts than simpler, less orchestrated dance recitals. While they are not the cheapest dance studio in town, they are certainly not the most expensive either, and I would definitely rate them as the best. As they routinely sweep the awards at prestigious dance competitions, I guess I'm not the only one that thinks that way!
