Differentiation is well established & widely taught in masters level curriculae, yet it's poorly understood. It was greatly advanced nearly 20 years ago for couples & sex therapy in a paradigm originated by David Schnarch, Ph.D. in his books, "Constructing the Sexual Crucible" (1991),"Passionate Marriage" (1996) and "Intimacy & Desire (2010). It's been my good fortune to have taken several week-long workshops with Dr. Schnarch, and to have consulted monthly for 7 years with his wife and colleagues. I have also been deeply influenced by the teaching and writing of Esther Perel. Her book, "Mating in Captivity", is also a major advancement in our field, using the dialectic of sensuality and domesticity.
