After a friend raved that The Black Cat had the best food in town, I did some research. The reviews I read supported her take on the food but many of them dogged the service. I have to say our experience was just the opposite - the food was just "ok" and the service great - friendly, quick and frequent. Also, many local folks said that it was "dark" for a family but we were there promptly at 5:00 and there was plenty of light - however, I could see it being dark once the sun went down.
I went to the Black Cat, and while the food was very good, and well presented, it took much longer than expected and the service was actually pretty terrible.
It took them quite a while to even come and take our orders. We ordered garlic aioli with bread and cheese fondue. The garlic aioli and bread took a good 10 minutes to come which i couldn't understand, then the fondue took another 10. Cold bread with a little dish of sauce on the side should be there pretty much RIGHT after you order it in my opinion.
We weren't checked on once, and when we finally got their attention and said we wanted the check THAT took forever. In addition to being unhelpful they bordered on rude some of the time.
I should say that there weren't very busy either, since that is often a reasonable excuse for poor service.
This was my only experience there, but my friend said that the service has never impressed her.
But like I said, the food was delicious! I would definitely recommend it, just make sure you have some extra time to kill.
