I don't know who the moron is who wrote that last post but they are absolutely wrong and is probably one of those people who will never be satisified with anything. The Tall Timber has been around forever and the food just keeps getting better. My family and I have been going there for years and can tell you first hand that everything they serve is top notch. I have ordered the steak and have never seen it done in a microwave. It has always been done on the broiler and as far as the prawns, it is one of my favorite dishes. The prawns are large prawns and not the size of a quarter like the moron stated. Also, everytime I have had mashed potatos they have been made from Baby Red potatos and not instant. The portions served are huge and the prices are more then fair. I have tried other restaurants in town and only the Italian place has as good of food as the Tall Timber. I encourage everyone to try the Tall Timber. The atmosphere is family Orientated and the staff is wonderful and make you feel like part of the family each time you go in.
If you like most of your food pre frozen and pre prepared, like the fried chicken, deep fried prawns, beer batter halibut, the gravy that comes from a bag and water is added to the instant mashed spuds, the canned or frozen veg. then yeah, it really is good. It isn't that hard to make real gravy and mashed spuds from scratch. The only time you will see fresh fish and chips is on a friday. Last time I was there i saw the cook take a steak off the grill, cut it open to check for the temp, then he put it in the microwave. If you order breakfast at night, then the sausage and hashbrowns are put in the deep fryer. Most often the soups are the bagged frozen that come in from either FSA or Sysco. The sides of veg with dinner are always frozen or canned. Steaming or sauting some fresh is a simple thing to do to order. If i could give this place a 1/2 star I would. I think this place is run by people who have no real culinary skills, other than, "they cook for their own families". It really is too bad, this could be one of those places that is "known" for really good down home style cooking. I mean $13.95 for 6 pre breaded frozen shrimp that are the size of a.25 cent piece?
Awesome food and service. The portions are generous and it is hard to choose what to order it is all so good. The meatloaf is fantastic and the apple crisp afterwards is the best I ever had (sorry mom). I go out of my way or create an excuse to drive into Eatonville to eat there.
