Every one is entitled to an opinion and here's mine regarding classes offered by Suzanne Sullivan. My most recent experience - Susanne is generally late -always an excuse of "Bridge Traffic." Suzanne has alot of repeat students (groupies??) & therefore she has to get caught up of what's new in their lives which eats into the alloted class time. I have taken 2 classes from Suzanne. The first was a Lace class several years ago. The class materials where photocopies of Interweave's "A Primer on Knitted Lace/Summer 2006" which I had already self taught as I have a subscription to Interweave. This spring I enrolled in her baby sweater smock class for 2 sessions for $40 or $45.00. As mentioned before, Suzanne was 20 minutes late for class. Spent time getting reacquainted with her previous students and assisting those students who were unprepared in selecting their yarn for the class. "Suzanne, what do you think about this yarn and Suzanne, what about this color and Suzanne how big should I make it and how much yarn will I need." Unfortunately these students who were not prepared ate up the time for us who were prepared. Okay, end of class-homework assignment given,- next class is assemble the sweater. Well guess what, Suzanne schedules the completion class to coincide with her "let me help you" sessions that met on the 2nd/4th Weds. for a fee. Now we are thrown in with a new mix of "groupies" that have their own individual concerns and are not working on our project. Therefore we are sharing the instructor. Suzanne no doubt would extend herself for additonal instruction however there would be the fee exceedubg the class fee of $45.00.God forbid if you arrive early for Tacoma Knitters and Suzanne's not ready to leave as she will reprimand you as though you were in the 4th grade. I have had 2 classes, both classes not very satisfactory as the instructor has the inability to manage her time and her students time - there is no structure in her teaching method. I am sure Suzanne is a very skilled knitter but not the "best" teacher. Just my opinion and the 6 squares that I have for my baby sweater.
If anyone could have a PhD in fiber it has to be Roberta the owner of this a serious store. They beat the corporate craft store prices too. Roberta can give you any tips you need to make you a better informed Knitter, or weaver. Worth the search and it's not that hard to find if you map it online here on Yahoo.
