Recently had dinner, impromptu for the evening at T's. It was high season for tourist, being locals my wife and I were skeptical about being seated in a timely fashion. T's was very bizzy, however we were seated in about 10 minutes. The ambiance and aroma of spices, pasta and seafood made for a wonderful appetizer.
Look out the window "Wow" water front dining in Port Townsend, who would have guessed.
I decided to put their chef's to the test. I selected their salmon. This was a test because I've been and avid fisherman for the better part of 35 years. I'm extremely picky. T's seasoning and preparation of the fish was excellent. The wine selection is also very well done, show casing local and Northwest wines.
So in short, My wife and I were very pleased with our experience. We will be bringing our guest, to this restaraunte by the sea named T's.
If we have more than 4, reservations will be made for sure.;)
Interesting that the last reviewer called their evening there a disaster, because that is a great word to describe ours.
We visited T's for a simple family meal on a Wednesday. After a detour to their old location (website not updated 3 weeks after move), we arrived and met up with the rest of our party. We were 12 total, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a large enough table. A few of us, but not all of us, had been told that they were very busy (Weds. night?) and couldn't take our order right away. So we waited, eating the tiny slices of bread they gave us in batches of 12 (for 12 people, mind you) and then asking for more, and more, please, pretty please? Can we please have some food? We waited about 30 minutes, getting drinks in the meanwhile, and then finally could order. We waited longer for our food to arrive, about another 30 minutes. Finally, the food was served - well, most of it, anyway.
My parents had made the mistake of answering the waitress's question about whether they wanted their two appetizers served with their shared entree, or as a separate course. They answered that two courses would be nice, so that they could share the appetizers with the rest of us while we waited for the food. For some inexplicable reason the waitress interpreted this to mean that she would bring the appetizers with the entrees the other ten of us ordered, and didn't even place the order for my parents' fish order to cook until AFTER we had the rest of our food. My parents politely awaited their entree, expecting it any minute, but by the time the rest of us had finished every bite of the rest of the food, we decided we couldn't wait any longer. My father informed one of the waitresses that we would have to cancel their fish entree order. Our head waitress returned, and tried to explain to us that the chef had already started firing the fish. Being a good two hours into our stay/captivity there already, and the other TEN of us having completely finished our meals, we were not very patient with this response (if she'd had the fish in hand that would be one thing, but it wasn't even ready yet).
We reiterated that we did not want to spend any further time (held hostage) at this place, at which point the waitress tried some yuppie-Jedi-mind-trick thing where she laid her hand on my dad's shoulder and stared into his eyes as she said, "Of course I wouldn't want to offend you, and if I've done anything wrong, please let me know." (Of course you did something wrong, lady! You think a party of twelve is going to want to sit around waiting for your slow chefs to get around to cook the food we're paying $20/plate for???)
At the end, she brought our bill, making a big to-do about striking our fish order completely from the bill (like, duh!) and then coming around and laying a hand on my dad's shoulder and my shoulder and saying to us in the most smarmy, insincere tone you could imagine, "Thank you for coming in tonight. This was just GREAT." I expect sarcasm at Ed Debevic's, not an attempt at upscale dining.
In the end, the food was quite tasty, the time spent talking with family was fun, but for the high prices we were paying, we deserved respectful, if not timely, service. I wouldn't return if you paid me!
This Valentine's Day was a disaster. Despite having a fixed price menu with limited choices, and a full dining room, the kitchen had only 3 staff. It took TWO FULL HOURS and 15 minutes to be served 4 courses, with the first course (appetizers) taking 45 minutes. We had reservations for 7:30pm and passed on a table right next to the guitarist's stool (literally, four feet away), waiting another 15 minutes for something more in tune with the evening. Throughout the meal, we observed the line of people waiting to be seated growing as time went by. This, with a fixed price menu AND firm reservations.
The salad was "mixed greens" that looked and tasted like they were straight from Costco. The entrees were good -- once they arrived. In between, we had to constantly ask for more bread, getting two small slices at a time until we asked for more.
For $170 including two drinks each and tip, this s/h/b a good experience, ESPECIALLY on a Valentine's Day Saturday night.
There are better restaurants here in P.T. for less money, notably The Fountain Cafe and Sweet Laurette's.
T's simply is not worth the time, money, or effort.
