I love Wagner's bakery items! Never eaten anything else there (sandwiches, etc.). I would say it ties for the top spot for baked goods in the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area.
My fiance was very excited about us getting a specialty cake from Wagner's for our wedding cake. Since we are doing petit fours for the guests, we thought a small cake for us to cut would be ideal. I decided to surprise him and ordered a 3 D replica of his motorcycle as the cake...what a fun way to show my groom how much I love him! I talked with Wagner's more than 6 weeks ahead of time and confirmed 3 weeks ahead and paid in advance for the cake and delivery. They looked at photos of the bike, consulted with the decorator and said they'd be happy to do this special cake.
Yesterday I got a phone call from them asking that I call... I was working and called them back at 830A today...they told me that their decorator said she cannot do the cake now- it's out of her range of talent/expertise- and that the owner said they should have never said yes in the first place. IT IS 9 DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING. I don't mind that they can't do it; I do mind that they weren't straight from the beginning. Mike's Amazing Cakes or Jet City Cakes in Seattle both could have done it, but not with only 9 days to the event.
A bad experience and one that has me choose to not use their services in the future or to recommend them.
The pastries are excellent. However, they have changed coffee. Instead of the flavorful coffee of years gone by, they now serve a weak concoction as appetizing as dishwater. Get your pastry to go. Don't waste money on coffee.
For coffee and a pastry, try the Bread Peddler further north on Capitol Way.
