Very good menu, options, price and service. however the food was the best...
I have visited this restaurant many times over many years and it has always been great!
The Golden Palace is the only Chinese restaurant in town where I would take an out-of-town guest if they wanted Chinese food. Not only is the food very, very good, it is CONSISTENTLY good. Most Chinese restaurants in every city have their specialty. Other than a Duck dish they prepare (with 48 hours notice), I don't believe Golden Palace has one. They don't need one. Food here is fabulous, freshly prepared, with a wide choice of dishes from most Chinese providences. All vegetable dishes' feature "just done" preparation. So when you bite into a pea pod, for example, it is fresh and still slightly crisp. Service is quick, but not overly so, waitstaff is attentive and friendly, and have almost always been "happy" to supply a special request. If it has to do with the preparation of food, they consult the chef. A good sign that the food is freshly prepared and that the chef will not compromise on some dishes. (It's not about the money, it's whether or not your request can be delivered) Some dishes I feel stand out from other's is the Peking Shrimp - a very lightly breaded shrimp with a wonderful sauce which includes hot peppers. This dish is just the best - and if not ordered for a group, I request the shrimp on one side and the sauce on the other. That way my always ample serving leftovers can be heated in the oven to keep the shrimp crisp and then sauce applied at home. Their lemon chicken, General Tso, or cashew chicken are also very worthy choices. On the appetizer plates the parchment chicken and barbeque pork are cooked until just done; and all arrives fresh and hot. While I prefer traditional egg rolls, which are larger and more substantial, for some reason I have found only a few places in the NW that prepare them that way - all in Seattle/Portland area. Anyway, GP's version is crisp and vegetables are not soggy - however, sometimes they can be too greasy. If you have had a bad experience, try the restaurant again, maybe at a slower time. I always believe in second chances with most restaurants. Best buy is during weekday lunches when the meals are around $5 to $6. After shopping on a weekday in the wet winter months I will stop by for Peking Shrimp and Jasmine tea to warm me up, and I won't have to cook dinner because the food at Golden Palace will not "make you hungry after 2 hours"! Bon Appetit!
