normally I would not waste my time and write a review of a restuarant, but I went into the "Depot" because of the reviews I read while looking for a decent place to eat. Friday I went to Tony's but the hostess was rude, so I went to my next choice and it was the Depot. I walked in and sat down at the bar, was promptly greeted by the bartender and had an excellent, huge piece of Prime Rib. The bartender was funny, fun and extremly helpful, I tried the Absinthe. He had a gaggle of girls around the bar and was flirting and making them laugh with his witty comments. the night would have been extremly enjoyable if it weren't for the drunk old guy who sat next to me and tried to talk about politics and some school in Selah, that he single-handely saved??? while campaigning in Olympia...what an idiot. The bartender knew his name and kept giving him glass of wine at his urging, he must have been the owner or something. Do go in and visit the bertender and the Absinthe, but avoid the old grey bearded guy at all costs, what a moroon.
Why is it that some of the most interesting things happen incidental to best laid plans? When I wandered into the Depot Restaurant recently, it was mostly out of curiosity to see what they had done with the place, but I did end up staying (contrary to all the other things I should have been doing). The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was remarkable. The old wood intact, the attention to detail in ornate ceiling frieze, the tile work, the immaculate windows looking out onto the tracks and the rest of the historic district . . . the depot is one of the finest remaining examples of turn of the centuryâthat is the 19-20th centuryâarchitecture in Washington. I donât know if everyone reading this will consider it a recommendation or not, but when I was there, the generous, polite, efficient staff had set up a listening station at the bar, so that customers could review the results of the recent visit of a âghost huntingâ investigation team. Apparently, there are a few shadowy travelers still in transit at the Depot! I must say I felt no cold spots while I was there, only warmth. Donât take my word for it, though. The Depot will be hosting a music night with Sean and Tom (folk/rock acoustic guitars) on Saturday, January 17th âwhy not stop in and experience the place for yourself?
I don't know about the rest of these reviews, but something must have changed recently at the Depot. The food was outstanding (Beef Tenderloin with Blackberry Brandy sauce), the Bloody Mary's were the best I've ever had and the Manager (David) was entertaining, knowledgeable and extremly proffessional (he was also our waiter.) I was entertaining friends and luckily I chose to eat at The Depot, as everyone commented about how great the atmosphere, service and food was.
