Centerline is a fantastic school for martial arts and fitness. It has something for everyone, young and old. I have trained in other schools and have truly found a home here. Centerline is a USTF-ITF school for Taekwon-Do, which is not "World" or "Sport" Taekwon-Do. The Taekwon-Do taught at Centerline focuses on self-defense, physical fitness and self-confidence. It is a small, family oriented school that makes sweating fun. It is NOT a mega-school that overcharges for its services that has lost the traditional concept of martial arts training in place of making money. Centerline does not make you a cage-fighter, rather it teaches you to defend yourself in real-world situations. In doing so, it embraces the philosophies of the old Far-Eastern martial arts in developing a sound mind, body and spirit, seeking not to engage in combat for sport, but in training the body with a spirit of humility towards our fellow humanity.
But do not mistake the training to be soft and incapable. The training is intense and well balanced. The school repeatedly brings home medals and trophies from local and regional tournaments where Centerline students excel at patterns, tournament sparring and breaking. The instructors are top quality and are extremely proficient at self defense taking also real world instruction from local law enforcement and federal penetentiary tactics.
If you are looking for a great way to stay in shape without the dull activity of free-weights or other mindless fitness program, then martial arts should be a top consideration. And as far as this school is concerned, it is tops in this valley. It is fun, friendly, and great for all ages and skill sets. All are welcome. It makes great efforts to make new students feel comfortable and welcome on their first visit. Hubris and Attitude need not apply--that's not the Taekwon-Do Way.
Great Instructors and students: I visited several local Martial Arts schools and found most to be egocentric and talk down about other schools and arts. The Instructors and students at Centerline are very friendly, easy going and none spoke badly of any other school or style. There were no "hey watch me" personalities, no egos, they were all very grounded and down to earth people. I worked out with the adult class for a few months before I moved away after college but if you are in the Walla Walla area and looking for a fun and challenging way to get in shape you really need to check out Centerline. And they are right down town so you can stop by Starbucks to get pepped up before a hard workout :-)
Kid Friendly: Great, safe place for kids to learn about fitness and self discipline through the practice of TKD
