Good for what it is: I enjoyed my time at UAS, but at the same time was very frustrated when it came time to register for the next semester. Letâs face it; itâs surrounded by Alaskan beauty. But, unfortunately, beauty doesnât help you obtain a degree. I attended for several semesters before becoming fed up with schedule conflicts.
Certain professors are excellent, and the administration is always working to improve the university, but having conflicts in the schedule, and only one option for a particular class (for most courses) make it very difficult to finish a degree in a timely manner. It would be nice if they offered more graduate degrees, too. For example, a Masterâs of Art in English. A person can get prepared to teach elementary, or secondary school, but to be prepared to teach at the university level requires leaving the area, and most likely, the state.
If you are laid back and have time, UAS is a great school. If you want to blaze through, and try to have a life outside of school, you might have to look elsewhere. Overall, it is a good place to get started, and possibly to achieve what you want. It all depends on what you are after.
