This place use to be really good. My bf and I we use to go to the Sushi Buffet all the time. The price was affordable and the sushi was really good. We moved out of state and moved back and decided to go eat sushi again. We went in Feb 2009 and the sushi was horrible. It took them so long to make the sushi and they must have replace one of the sushi chef because the guy that was making sushi totally sucked at it. He didn't even know how to make Dragon Roll. He even asked my bf how do you make that and then asked the lady chef how to make it. My bf told him just make it the way you would normally make it. So, he made it and it was the worst dragon roll I have eatten.
Everytime my bf has a craving for Sushi and wants to go here, i just tell him it's best not to go. I don't want to spend $60.00 on sushi that's probably not going to be very good. I don't know why the sushi bar is going down hill. The lady sushi chef is great, but that new guy. We keep telling my brother and sister that when they come to visit we'll take them to Ichiban, but maybe when they come visit we'll take them somewhere else. Back then like in 2005, 2006, 2007 and even part of 2008 I wouldn't mind taking them here, but now the food sucks and I would feel bad taking them here and having them so much money on sushi that is not of great quality.
i freaken hate this place!!! i swear!! and please people!! listen to me!!! be aware!! this place is wayyyyyyyyyyyy to overrated sometimes by people!! i didn't listen to the other bad review this place got and decided to take my girlfriend there for our 3 year anniversary and oh gosh!! worst place ever to take someone out to! because you can't have your own private seats like other restaurants do, its either you sit with everybody else (people who you don't know) in a round table with the chef in the middle cooking. or you sit at the sushi bar (but who wants to eat only sushi right?) anyways!! I'm asian and i ended up sitting by these four older business white guys!! who was sooo damn annoying the way they talked about how rich they were and how fancy this and that was!! plus the food is wayyyyyy overpriced for how little you get. i mean don't get me wrong, the chef cooking infront of me was pretty cool but besides that! everything about this place SUCKS!!! there is nothing JAPANESE about this place!! hahaha..seriously!!! i made reservations and right when i walked in, the fucken greeter looked at me like i was some kind of poor hobo looking for free food!! did not like the service at all!!! and damnn...this place was field with cocky rich white people!!! who talked about how cheap this food was etc. and its freaken $40 a plate!! got me!!! seriously...i ADVISE you!!! try to avoid this place!!! parking sucks! food sucks! service sucks! overall....SUCKS!!! i give it a 0 out of 10. period! its a bad place to take your date because its going to feel weird sitting with these stupid drunk people! and its bad taking your family because with it being $40 bucks a plate!!! hello!!!!! wake up people!!! thats like $200-$400 right there! not worth it at all!! trust me, they only give out a little amount of food for that price. but do watever..you don't have to take my advice. go ahead and experience this horrifying place! kikukawa by riverplace is so much better!
Let me say, I am disgusted by the price and services! Maybe this only happens on the buffet line, but I'm absolutely disgusted by it. It was an unwelcoming atmosphere to start out with, the bill was ridicules, and at the end the service was bad! The chef was great but the waitress sucks. I took my brother, his girlfriend and my boy friend out to celebrate my brother's girlfriend's 20th birthday. On our bill was an automatic 20% tip charge on top of the $29.99 per person buffet. The law states that restaurants can not automatically charge tips on a party less than 5. The service sucks, why should I pay 20% in tip for getting treated like this?
So, the first time was the first time. I gave it another chance and decided to try it again. We paid cash for our meal and it came up as $65 for my date and I. My date pay with $100 bill and asked for change, the waitress got mad and asked the short elderly lady to come ask for tip. Look, the funny thing was that we haven't finish eating yet and weâre push to pay the bill already. In spite of that, we pay with $100 and they expect $35 tips. We haven't even finish eating and the old lady already came by pointing out that we need to tip. Lady! We haven't even finish eating yet! I felt like they just wanted to rush us out of the restaurant because we were the only one on the buffet line, 2 hours before it closes. That's no way to treat a customer even if it's at the very end of the closing hour, which we came nothing close to it. No way am I going to tip them with that service. I sure left a nice tip for the chef, but not the waitress with that attitude! They don't deserve it.
If you want to get treated like crap and have the money to pay for it, go ahead. If not, I warned everyone... It's a very unwelcoming and disturbing experience.
