Unique Thrift store USED to be good. Since their remodel the prices have GONE UP. $19.99 on shirts in the women's department if the tags are still on them. I got 3 shirts for $12.99 each at JC Penny and Herbergers with the TAGS still on them. I can buy new cheaper then the used stuff at Unique. THE deals are NOT good anymore at UNIQUE. It is UNIQUELY over priced. $5.00 for a plate with a chip in it? $49.99 for knock off designer used purses? The same blue purse one has been on the rack for 2 weeks at $29.99 I can buy NEW for those prices. No wonder the parking lot is never full anymore.
I've been going to this thrift store for years, and have donated tons of stuff as well. Basically, they've made hundreds of dollars off me. But after today, I'm never going back. First of all, this is *NOT* a charity store as some have said. It is pure profit and the prices have gone up so dramatically over the last few years that you can do much better on the clearance racks at Target. Anyway, today I found a plate that matched one of my sets and I was carrying it around the store until I was finished browsing. I brought it up to the counter with a couple of other items. The cashier motioned for an asst. manager to come over, who told me they wouldn't sell me the plate because the price had rubbed off. Well, I told her it was $2.80 and you could still see the price - asking her to just look at it closely. She wouldn't. I asked if they could take it to the back and get it re-priced, but they told me they couldn't do that, and that it wouldn't be priced until tomorrow. They would put it back out on the floor, and would not call me nor would they keep it aside for me until the price was written back on (with grease pencil - a terrible way to price items since people are always picking them up and they're apt to wipe off). I asked for the manager who came out and said sorry, it was their policy. I asked nicely if they could just hold it aside for me, that it matched a set I had, and they said no, no, no. Even after I told them I had been a loyal customer for years and threatened never to come back, the manager (who is a big fat white guy, surrounded by hispanic employees who they probably pay minimum wage) wouldn't budge. I said that's it, I will never shop here again and will donate all my old stuff to Goodwill or Salvation Army (which I should have been doing anyway). And the "we can't get it priced right now" line is garbage - if you look in the back, there are ALWAYS people sorting and pricing items back there. Also, most of the time they overprice things, like fake Prada and Coach bags which are obvious rip-offs; still they sell them for way too much and try to convince you they are real. This is just one example out of many.
I would encourage anyone who goes there to think about what kind of organization they're giving their money to. Go to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or a Neighborhood thrift store instead. I've seen the light and I hope you will too!
OMGosh! We buy so many of our kids clothes here and have for at least 8-9yrs without incident. It's my kids favorite place to shop! There is so much to look at and I almost always say yes to buying something when asked by them....I get to practice my college spanish too! (0: I recommend it to everyone. I've been to the Salvation Army but only once, it was really trashy and I never went back. Unique is expanding hugely in size now by converting over the liquor store - didn't know about the changing rooms. Thanks!
