I agree it is best not to go here on a Saturday! And also that the prices on equipment and such are way overboard. However, this is the best place I have found for buying healthy quality fish and live plants. None better around here. I have had numerous tanks over the years and currently keep just discus and angels. All came from A World of Fish as juveniles several years ago and have thrived to large size adults. The staff is very knowledgeable, but go on a week day if you need help or have questions etc.
Crowded store. Can't get any help: This store was so hot and crowded and you could not get someone to answer your questions. They seemed to not have enough people working to help everyone in the store. Fish tanks contain several different kinds of fish, but you can't get anyone to tell you what is what.
Very complete, very busy, very pricey: The World of Fish was a trip, all right. Going there on a Saturday is to be avoided, because the store merchandise is somewhat disorganized and the narrow, twisting aisles create traffic jams when the Saturday crowds show up. This took away a lot of the pleasure I might have had from seeing this place for the first time.
The extensive freshwater and marine displays are well worth seeing, although many of the freshwater tanks were overcrowded and algae-ridden. The marine tanks were mostly georgeous, and the sheer variety of fish displayed was phenomenal.
So were the incredible price markups. The same brand filters, heaters, hood lights etc. are available at Pet Expo-type places for less than half the cost. $80 for a LIGHT BULB?? I don't care if it's a Power Compact, the same thing can be found elsewhere for $25.
While the World of Fish has an impressive inventory, I'll do my routine aquarium shopping elsewhere and come here only when I'm looking for something rare. Plus I'll avoid going on Saturdays, when the sales force is just too busy ringing sales to answer any questions.
