the wait is always usually long at dinner hours and the food isnt the greatest but Ive always had and okay time during the lunch hours. no major problems but id rather eat else where.

Most Horrible Service I've Ever Had!: I had the displeasure of dining (if you can call it that) at Applebee's in Duluth. Apparently I've been told by others that this was a unique experience (and not one I'd care to dupliate).

On the one upside of this visit, the food was "okay" ... It was nothing to write home about and nothing unattainable elsewhere, but it was "okay". For the price one pays for meals there, I would have expected something a bit better than just "okay". The food was warm, but not hot, leaving one to believe it may have sat a tad too long waiting for pick-up by the waitress.

The general ambience/atmosphere was pretty much the same as any other Applebee's, so you almost have to rate that as average. It was clean.

The service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. We went at an off-peak time of day and were seated almost immediately by a pleasant hostess. From there it went straight downhill. I can't even remember how long it took to get water much less place an order or get something other than water to drink. We watched table after table waited on and served; to the point other diners made audible comments about how long we had been waiting for service. We saw people who arrived after us get waited on and served. It must have been, at minimum, a half hour before the waitress (who had been busy flirting with tables comprised of mostly male customers) come to take our order. We made no comment to her about the length of time it took, nor made any other negative comments, yet she was abrupt and bordered rude. We were still trying our darndest to have a pleasant day and meal together.

Once the order was placed it still took her an inordinate amount of time to get it to the table. The waitress never checked back to see if our order was alright; we also were never asked if we'd like to have a refill on our coffee or soda (after waiting all that time to even get them). Dessert was also apparently not an option (not that we wanted any, but to be asked would have been polite). She did make sure to drop off the bill. I have no idea if we were to pay her or find a hostess, but we finally found a bartender to take the bill and payment.

This is the first time ever that I left no tip and asked to speak to the manager when leaving. The manager provided the obligatory appology, but that was it.

I've never been back to this Applebee's, although I'm told that the situation would likely not be the same. If I do try an Applebee's again, I think I'll try the Superior restaurant and hope for better than we experienced. They'd almost have to work at it to make it worse!
