User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLOVE this place. I took 5 young girls here for a birthday. Kids had a great time. Family oriented. Great Food and Staff! Lets just add a little more authentic flavor for us who long to be in the south during long winters in MN :) Thank you to the "no-smoking" law!!!!!

On 371 in Baxter there are many restaurants to choose from if you are not carefully you could end up here. I know a lot of people like Mexican food and its the only Mexican restaurant in town (besides Taco Bell). About once a year I deside to give it another try this past Sunday was it for me. First the smell in the restaurant makes it unbearable to eat. The chips they give you are stale. The food is about as far from authentic as you can get. Server was nice but had no knownledge of the menu. Great location only Mexican in town should be a goldmine, but someone REALY dropped the ball.

The BEST waitress staff ever!!!!: The food is great here, but the waitresses are even better. I have never been to a place with better service. Love it!

I also disagree with this review. This is one of the busiest restaurants in town...and for a very good reason....they are great!! I have never visited a better Tex-Mex restaurant.
Wow...these sound like personal attacks on Poncho & Lefty's to me...I would report abuse immediately if I were the owner. This should be totally unacceptable. I think that Poncho's does a wonderful job-and obviously many others do as well. They are always busy! Great job Guys!!!
lutzpaul33, I have been eating at this restaurant for many years and have to say this is one of my favorite places to go. My friends and family all feel the same way. First of all, if you want some really authentic Mexican food you should fly down to Mexico and taste it first hand. We live in America Jack and Ponchos food is authentic enough, perhaps Lutzpauls' taste buds are as bad as their spelling!!! I have talked to people out of the state and they have told me this is the best mexican food they have had. As for the smell, every mexican restaurant smells the same. I have been to a lot of them and if you dont like the smell, don't eat mexican!
Fisher62, you don't have to leave the US to get really good Mexican food. Ever been to El Mercado in Minneapolis? There are no Mexican restaraunts run by Mexican Americans in this area. The people of the Brainerd area live sheltered lives when it comes to knowing GOOD Mexican food. Sorry, but Poncho and Lefty's food is not a good example. They DO have a great atmosphere and a great staff!
Totally agree with lutzpaul33. Although I realize the food was not going to be authentic, I was very unimpressed by the uneducated staff and rudeness of the bartenders.
